c5Lab closes carbon capture project through calcium looping

The closing session of the c5Lab project, which studied carbon capture through "calcium looping" technology using innovative adsorbents such as marble dust, an abundant waste product in Portugal, took place on September 20.

The studies show that using these adsorbents in the "calcium looping" process could be the key to a greater capacity for capturing carbon dioxide (CO2) from cement factory chimneys.

The closing session took place at the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST). It was attended by the Executive Director of c5Lab, Margarida Mateus, the project leader and professor at IST, Henrique Matos, and the researchers Luísa Marques, Ana Sofia Amorim, and Maria Gonçalves Vieira.
